Advice
Food and Allergies:
There are many website giving various and conflicting advice regarding wood, wood finishes; food safety and allergies.
Where we make items specifically for use with food rather than as artistic items the item will be stated as ‘food safe’. ‘Food Safe’ does not equate to ‘allergies’ safe.
Below are some bullet points which may use that information, however in regard to allergies especially I would suggest assuming any wooden bowls, plates or similar, or any wood finishes may present a risk.
- Some timbers such as YEW are regarded as toxic. Information mainly relates to the leaves, however any YEW items should be regarded as artistic, not for food use.
- Timbers regarded as food safe include OAK, SYCAMORE, BEECH, TULIPWOOD, ASH, ELM, CHERRY. Indeed the acidity in these timbers should add to their food safety.
Food Safe Finishes:
- We only use finishes which are ‘Food Safe’ such as natural oils and wax, food safe finish hard finishes and water based products such as food safe lacquer.
Toys:
- We do not make items to be used as toys. Where we do they will be marked as such.
